The Making of a FrankenViolin - Painting and Design
I was now ready to start painting. I started with the base coats using high gloss paint. I painted the front half white where the skull would go and the rest black. After several coats, I started working on the front skull and rib design. When the front finally was done, I worked on the ribcage on the back, and finally the spine on the fingerboard. I inserted the cutout door so I could paint a continuous design. Fortunately, it fit snuggly, so I didn’t have to tape it down for painting. Each coat of paint took about 24 hours to fully dry, so this part took a long time since I applied multiple layers.
